Report: Get Free Spotify Premium... Inside a Tesla Model S

 Tesla Model S
Tesla and Spotify have teamed up to bring streaming music to the electric carmaker's Model S.

As reported by The Telegraph, new and current Tesla Model S owners will now have voice-activated control over the more than 30 million tracks available through Spotify. The deal replaces Rdio, the previous streaming platform of choice in Tesla vehicles, the technology for which was recently acquired and shut down by Pandora.

Of note is that Tesla owners will have full access to Spotify Premium in their cars, even without a subscription. Outside the confines of their Model S, however, they'll need to have the $10-per-month Spotify Premium service to keep listening ad-free.

According to The Telegraph, streaming will initially be available to customers in Europe, Hong Kong, and Australia, but not in the U.S. It did not mention if the new Model X SUV is also included.
Neither Tesla nor Spotify immediately responded to a request for comment.
Tesla's senior manager for Automotive Business Development, Jonathan Tarlton, told The Telegraph that "the car radio has not changed much all," so the deal is an alternative for those who don't want to listen to traditional or satellite radio.

Once Tesla owners fire up Spotify, they'll be able to do everything from creating playlists to choosing individual tracks. Tesla has promised that the experience will be the same in-car as it is on the many other devices Spotify is already running on, including the iPhone and Android-based devices.

For its part, Spotify's Tesla agreement is just an extension of its broader car initiatives. The company has already worked with the likes of BMW and Mini, as well as Uber.
